This week on The Arts Show Alex McCulloch chats with Melbourne Gallerist Jacob Hoerner and artist Jenny Reddin.
Over the last 20 years Jacob Hoerner has consistently produced commercial exhibitions by selected artists from Australia and abroad. Initially producing intermittent exhibitions in Europe in the late 1990’s, on returning to Australia in the early 2000’s Jacob established a commercial gallery in Melbourne that ran from 2002 – 2015 under the moniker Kick Gallery. Since the start of 2016 Jacob has sought to take a different approach to exhibiting under the new banner Jacob Hoerner Galleries in which the work of the represented artists is shown at a variety of exhibition spaces and Art Fairs in Australia, Asia, the Americas and Europe. This new model of exhibiting is almost a return to the origins of initiating exhibitions at a variety of spaces for short periods of time although it also builds on the last 15 years of experience and expertise exhibiting from a fixed location. There is an inherent flexibility in this new model of showing artists at a variety of spaces and this reflects the evolution, development and changing nature of the visual arts sector in the second decade of the 21st century.
